Quickstart

Create a workspace, give it boards, open its portal to your customers and bring in your team. It takes a few minutes.

Create your account#

Go to Get started and sign in with your work email. You get an email with a 6-digit code, valid for 10 minutes, and a link that signs you in too. Signing in with a new address creates your account. When the sign-in page offers Google or GitHub, you can use them instead.

Create a workspace#

A workspace holds one product's boards, portal, roadmap and changelog, and the team that runs them. You fill in:

  • Name: your product or company, as your customers know it.
  • Slug: your portal's address. Lowercase letters, digits and single hyphens, starting with a letter. A workspace with the slug acme has its portal at acme. followed by the portal domain.
  • Default language: what your portal speaks to a visitor whose browser asks for a language it doesn't have, and the one search uses to match words. It starts on your own browser's language. Everyone else reads the portal in their own.
  • Time zone: for scheduled changelog entries and the weekly digest.

You become the workspace's owner, on the Free plan. You can change all four later under Settings → General. Only owners change the slug, and the old address keeps sending visitors to the new one.

Set up your boards#

A new workspace has no boards, and customers can't post until it has one. Under Boards, choose New board:

  • Name and Slug: "Feature requests" at /boards/feature-requests, say. Leave the slug empty to make it from the name.
  • Description: what belongs on the board, in Markdown. The portal shows it at the top of the board.
  • Color: the dot next to the board's name.
  • Visibility: public, on the portal, or private, for your team only.
  • On the roadmap: whether the board's posts may show on the portal's roadmap. Leave a board of bug reports off it.

Most teams start with two or three boards, such as "Feature requests" and "Bugs". The Free plan has up to 3 boards, not counting the ones in the trash.

Tags, under Tags, label posts across boards, such as "Mobile" or "Billing". Your team adds them to posts, and people filter the portal's posts by them.

Choose how the portal behaves#

Under Settings → General, the Portal section sets:

  • Names on the portal: shown, or hidden so posts say "a customer".
  • Roadmap: shown to everyone, or to your team only.
  • Posts wait for approval and Comments wait for approval: nobody's, guests', or everyone's. Guests' by default: see Moderation.
  • Guests: whether people may write without signing in. Off by default.
  • Weekly digest: the week's news by email to your customers, on Monday mornings. On by default.

Settings → Branding sets the portal's logo, accent color and theme.

Share your portal#

Portal, in the dashboard's menu, opens your portal in a new tab, and Settings → General shows its address. Link to it from your product, your help center and your emails.

Anyone can read the portal. To post, vote, comment or follow, people sign in with their email and a code, as you did. That account is for your portal only: it gives no access to your dashboard. Portal and boards has the details.

Invite your team#

Under Settings → Team, Invite someone with their email and a role:

  • Admin: runs the feedback and most settings.
  • Owner: also changes roles, transfers ownership, and manages the slug, the custom domain and billing. Only owners invite owners.

They get an email, sign in with that address and choose Accept on the dashboard's home page. An invitation is valid for 7 days. The Free plan has 3 members, pending invitations included, and Pro has 20. See Team and roles.
