Plans and billing
Every workspace starts on Free. Pro adds room for a bigger team, the API, private boards, and your own domain and brand.
For prices, see the pricing page.
What each plan includes#
| Free | Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| Team members, pending invitations included | 3 | 20 |
| Boards | 3 | Unlimited |
| Posts and comments read by AI, a month | 50 | 2,000 |
| AI drafts a month | 5 | 100 |
| Integrations | 1 | 10 |
| API keys, for the REST API and the MCP server | No | Yes |
| Private boards | No | Yes |
| Custom domain | No | Yes |
| Hiding "Powered by Swingback" on the portal | No | Yes |
Everything else is in both plans: the portal, the widget and its sign-in, the roadmap, the changelog, notifications, moderation, the AI features and webhooks.
An integration is Slack, Discord, a GitHub account or a Linear workspace: see Slack and Discord and GitHub and Linear.
Some things never count toward a limit: customers, posts, votes, comments, changelog entries and webhooks (up to 10 endpoints on either plan). Boards in the trash don't count either. What counts as a read and as a draft: see AI features.
Upgrade to Pro#
Owners upgrade under Settings → Billing: choose Monthly or Yearly, then click Upgrade to Pro on Pro's card. Stripe's checkout takes the payment and sends you back to Billing. The plan changes as soon as Stripe confirms the payment, usually within a minute: reload the page to see it.
Admins see Billing too: the plan, where it comes from, and what the workspace uses against each limit. Only owners change it.
Manage or cancel#
Once the workspace has subscribed, Manage billing under Settings → Billing opens Stripe's billing portal. There, owners cancel the subscription, switch between monthly and yearly billing, update the payment method and find the invoices. A cancelled subscription stops renewing: the workspace keeps Pro until the end of the period it has paid for. A switch applies at once, and Stripe credits the unused part of the current period, so you never pay twice for the same days. Billing shows when the subscription renews, or when it ends after a cancellation.
If a payment fails, the workspace keeps Pro while Stripe tries again.
Refunds, and what cancelling means in every case: Refunds and cancellations.
When a workspace goes back to Free#
When the subscription ends, the workspace is on Free again. Nothing is deleted, and nothing private becomes public:
- Members and boards stay, even past Free's limits, but can't grow: while the workspace is over a limit, nobody can be invited or accept a pending invitation, and no board can be added or restored.
- Private boards stay private, and their other settings still change. A new board can't be private, a public board can't become private, and a private board can't come back from the trash.
- A custom domain keeps serving your portal. A new one can't be added.
- "Powered by Swingback" shows on the portal again. Your setting is kept for when you upgrade.
- API keys stop working, and so does the MCP server: their requests answer
403feature_not_in_plan. The keys aren't revoked, and work again after an upgrade. - Integrations stay connected, even past Free's limit: Slack and Discord announce as before, and GitHub and Linear keep their issues in step. A new one can't be connected while the workspace is over the limit.
- AI reads and drafts follow Free's limits at once. If the month's count is already past one of them, that part of the AI pauses until next month.
In the API, what a plan doesn't allow answers 403, with plan_limit_reached or feature_not_in_plan. The dashboard
marks it Pro plan where it is, with its buttons turned off, and says where owners change the plan.
